Secret: In order to add personality to my dorm room, I decided to hang my initials on the wall in a unique way. I made the letter blocks myself out of styrofoam, fabric, wooden letters, paint, and a little bit of fabric glue and staples. I covered the styrofoam squares with fabric by stapling the fabric down on the backs. I then painted the wooden letters and attached them with fabric glue onto the fabric covered styrofoam. This was a great way to display my monogram on the walls of the dorm because I was able to use adhesive squares to mount the light-weight blocks.

we are very excited to annouce the launch of our latest project: the best dorm design contest 2008. this is a local contest for UGA students only. it will be hosted virtually through this blog- pretty pieces- and judged by a panel of local design experts including a UGA professor of design (who will give extra credit to her participating students) and three local interior designers.

the rules are simple: we are asking design savvy students to submit 5 pictures of their decorated dorm room to us via email. please note that the last day for submission is midnight on october 24th. once the judges have reviewed all the designs- we will announce the winners at the ‘big reveal’ cocktail party on november 5th in andrew downs & company store. contestants, judges, readers, clients, and friends are all welcome to attend the party. prizes will be awarded at the party & will include gift certificates & the winning design may be featured in an athens magazine. (more details about this to come). the judges will pick the winner based on originality & creativity. we want cohesive designs that wow. all submissions will be available for general viewing by clicking the best dorm design button on the top of this blog. more rules & information on the flier below.
